Writing is one of the best jobs in the world. My work
travels with me, creativity abounds, and I’m never bored. There is just one
major drawback. I have to sit still to write. Or do I?
My husband has a job sitting at a desk, staring at two
computer screens all day long. We understand that work has to be done, but we’d
like to get up and move around a little too.
I’ve collected a few ideas to get you moving. Disclosure: This post does contain affiliate links.
Exercise Bike
Have you seen the new bike that has a small desk attached? You can peddle away while working on your latest project. Keep the blood pumping and the work going.

We all get in a groove or lose track of time. Set a timer and
take a walk for five to ten minutes. It will help your productivity, and it’s
good for your heart.
You know I’m a yogi. Even if you aren’t, there are
stretches you can do while at your desk to keep you from hunching over or
having bad posture. Circulation is key when you have a desk bound job. Check out these videos by Adriene. She has a vast library of yoga videos for every level. There is even a video for couch potatoes. Got to love it!
Do you have a watch or a pedometer? FitBit has challenges
you can participate in with friends. There’s nothing like a little friendly
competition to get you up and on your feet. Set goals and challenge other
sitting colleagues.
The elliptical has downsized. Park this miniature version
under your desk for small workouts. You
might not want to use it while people are in your office. They may think you
need to go to the bathroom. Other than that, work those legs!
How do you stay active while working a desk job? We’d
love to hear your ideas in the comments.
