Our Garden

I killed a cactus! How is that even possible? Cactus are some of the hardiest plants around, and I managed to deflate it.

When we moved into our house last summer, my husband loved that the back yard had a raised garden. He was excited to start a garden this spring, and I told him to go for it. I also let him know that with my history in the gardening world that he was on his own.

Kevin bought a PH level kit on Amazon, and tested our soil. It was almost ready for planting. He went to Starbucks and picked up a bag of used coffee grounds. Then he dispersed the grounds into the soil, and we were off to buy plants.

We bought two tomato plants, Thai pepper plant, squash, and Dragon Cayenne pepper plant. My son added his Lima bean plant from school.

With all the rain we have been getting, the garden is thriving. The squash plant is turning into a tree, and we can see little buds forming on all the plants.

I really wanted the boys to know about growing food. Kevin has let them be a part of every step of the process, and they are excited to try the fruits of their labor. It will be a bit longer before the veggies are ready to eat.  We are already thinking about a fall garden, and I’m putting in my requests now.

Thankfully the plants are doing great, and I’m glad that I don’t have a thing to do with it. Do you garden with your children?
