How to Save Money on Your Wedding Reception

Things are starting to look up for the economy, but we are still having to watch our pennies. Your wedding reception can be fabulous without breaking the bank. Here are some ideas for saving some dough on your wedding reception.

*Have just a wedding cake, punch, and small hors d'oeuvres. By not having a sit down dinner you can avoid cost for extra tables along with the cost of food. This will also give guest an opportunity to mingle instead of feeling restricted to their table.

*Have only one wedding dress. About a couple of years ago it became popular for the bride to have a dress for the ceremony and one for the reception. One dress will be fine and practical.

*Use the flowers from the ceremony to decorate the reception.

*If you can not afford to use a bakery that specializes only in wedding cakes, try your grocery store. Many grocery stores have a variety of wedding cakes that taste great for a fraction of the cost.

*Make the wedding cake smaller and provide a groom's cake. This will give your guest different cake options and a break for your budget.

*One big way to save is by using the fellowship hall of the church you are getting married in. The church will probably give a discount for the use of the fellowship hall. Your guest will not have to drive to a different location, and the decorations can easily be moved.

*Limit the alcoholic beverages. No open bar means more money for the honeymoon.

*DJ's and bands add great entertainment, but they can cost a good chunk of money. If you are having an informal wedding reception play your favorite music on your ipod.

Saving money doesn't mean that you will not have a great time. Be smart with your money and spend on what is important to you. This is your day.
