Spring Cleaning: 6 Things You May Have Forgotten

Spring breathes new life and that includes your house. In Texas, spring is short so my cleaning must be thought out and quick. The hot summers come quickly, and no one feels like deep cleaning in the heat. Here are a few items that I'm adding to my list. These are easy to look over, but great to accomplish before summer.

Clean the Air Ducts, Vents, and Dryer Vent. Groupon is great for this chore. They have specials all the time, and it's good to have a professional help with this task.

The Medicine Cabinet. It's a good idea to go through the medicine cabinet every so often. Medicines expire or go bad. Let's face it; there are probably bottles with microscopic amounts of product that are still lingering in the cabinet. They need to go!

The Family Car. Running the van through the car wash is so much easier than vacuuming it out. For spring cleaning, take out the mats, the car seats, and empty all the nooks and crannies. Before vacuuming, sprinkle baking soda to remove any odors.

The Gutters. These rain guzzling leaf traps get filled with all kinds of debris. If left full too long, they can pull away from the eaves and become detached from your home. While you are out cleaning the windows, empty the gutters too. Oh, and have someone hold the ladder for you, please. We don't want any spring cleaning hospital bills.

The Pantry. At least once a year, the pantry needs a major reorganization and clean out. I purge it every so often, but things still seem to pile up and look messy. Take everything out of the pantry, clean the shelves, and buy new baskets or organizers. Finding ingredients quickly will put dinner on the table faster.

The Fireplace. The roasted hot dogs were a big hit on cold winter nights, but it's time to clean up the fireplace. Burn a chimney sweep log in the fireplace to remove soot from the inside of the chimney. The following day, remove the ashes from the fireplace. You may want to clean the mantle and surrounding stone, tile, or brick. This will make your fireplace sparkle.

Would you add anything to the list? Happy Spring Cleaning!
