Postpartum Pounds

The baby has arrived, but the pounds have not left. I know it took 9 months to put on the baby weight, and everyone says it takes time to take it off. I'm ready to lose the weight now!

With my first baby, I was able to fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes in 3 months.  After the second baby it took me 3 weeks. With this last pregnancy I've lost 16 lbs, and I still have 20 more pounds to lose before reaching my pre-prego weight.  I know it's only been a month, but I'm anxious to lose the weight.

Before this third baby, I needed to lose 10 lbs. I started working out last April for 30-50 minutes five days a week. I kept my calorie count at 1200 everyday. After 3 months of this and only losing 3 lbs, I went to the doctor for my annual check up. She said I was two pounds over the weight limit for my height. Since my exercising plan wasn't cutting it, she prescribed weight loss pills. I took them for a week, and my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. I called the doctor to see if this was normal. They told me to stop taking the pills immediately or it could cause permanent heart damage.

I was back to square one. One month later I was pregnant. So much for losing the 10 lbs before strapping on baby poundage! Adding everything together I have 30 lbs to lose to get down to my ideal weight.

The doctor has not released me to exercise yet, but I have already started changing my diet. In the past, I had great success with changing my diet but not counting calories. Maybe I stress too much over the number of calories and end up feeling hungry all the time.

Here's the plan for this go around.
1. Eat healthy
2. Have two low calorie snacks in between meals
3. Drink a lot of water
4. Exercise 30 minutes three to four times a week
5. Have a small dessert twice a week and one small piece of chocolate everyday. (If I deprive my sweet tooth too much, it may get ugly)
6. Weigh myself once a week.

Do you have weight to lose? How quickly did you lose the baby weight, and what plan did you use?

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Amanda
